Mother of a son with cancer. He's in his 40s and apparently it's stage 4. He lives overseas so I can't visit. I feel lost and hopeless

I have just found out that my son has cancer. Not too sure of the full details as yet but understand that it is stage 4. He is in his 40's so not a youngster but difficult to cope with nonetheless. Unfortunately, he and the family live overseas so I cannot visit. I feel lost and helpless. Not a new story by any means, but new to me.

  • Hi Tarkzul,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm very sorry to hear of the situation with your son - I imagine this is incredibly difficult to process, especially with the distance.

It sounds like you are still waiting to hear more about all this, so I hope you can get more information soon.

I can understand feeling helpless - but it's good to hear he has others close to him too. Through keeping in touch I'm sure he will know that you are there, although I know it will be difficult.

We're always here if you need it so do keep in touch, and I hope that the forum can be helpful for you.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
