Malignant Pleural Effusion.

My father in law has had a Talc pleurodesis after 4 days of chest drain taking just over 4 litres out. He is suspected of Malignant Pleural Effusion.

we are waiting on results of testing the fluid Although the consultant is ‘almost certain’ it’s cancer and has suggested he has 3-12 months survival period

Im the only one in the family that is aware of this and it’s challenging keeping it together.

  • Hello Popcorn

I'm sorry to hear that your father-in-law has been unwell and that the Consultant has said that it is most likley cancer that is responsible for the problems he's been having. Undoubtedly this will have been hard news for you all to receive. Hopefulyl the team will be able to give some answers soon and offer you omse reassurance and clarity around the your father-in-laws care.

It can be difficult knowing the prognosis for a loved one and you've mentioned in your post that no one else in the family is aware of this news at the moment. Hopefully as more information is shared by the specialists, the whole family will pull together to support your father-in-law and each other through this difficult time.

In the meanwhile, if it would help for you to talk things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can.

Keep posting here in the Cancer Chat community Popcorn if it helps to have a safe space to put things down in writing. We're here for you.

    Sending you my best wishes,
