I have had 13 sessions of radiotherapy after breast surgery with 2 more to go. Over the weekend I have developed a sore throat and I'm finding it hard to swallow. Has anyone else had this after radiotherapy and will it go eventually?

I'm sorry to hear you've been finding it hard to swallow and have developed a sore throat as you near the end of your radiotherapy.
Although difficulty swallowing can be a common side effect from head or neck radiotherapy, I couldn't find it mentioned in the possible list of side effects from radiotherapy for breast cancer. That doesn't mean it couldn't be one though, so if you're worried or your symptoms have got worse, don't hesitate to let your medical team know so they can make this easier for you.
Hopefully some of our members who had experienced something similar will share their experiences and advice with you soon, but if you'd like to speak to one of our cancer nurses about this they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They will do all they can to answer your questions and put your mind at ease.
In the meantime, I'm wishing you all the best with your last 2 radiotherapy sessions and I hope your side effects start to improve soon.
All the best,

I have had a similar issue. I have completed 11 out of 15 radiotherapy treatments for breast cancer. On two consecutive days, yesterday and today, my vitamin tablet has got stuck in my oesophagus. I've never had this happen before. Is it related to the radiotherapy?
My oncologist said you can have swallowing problems during/after radiotherapy. He said it should pass in a few weeks. I have been using one of those pill cutter things to cut all my pills up.
Thanks. It's a bit worrying when it happens. Good to know it's normal. Hope the final part of your treatment went well.
Thanks, all 15 finished now. Good luck to you !
