having to stop HRT

This is my first post, so hello everyone

I am 53 and I’ve been taking HRT for four years. It took at least two years to get the balance right. I take oestrogen, testosterone and I have a Marina coil because I was still getting regular periods.

Two days ago I was diagnosed with early breast cancer. I am now awaiting my meeting with the surgeon to discuss how they want to move forward and radiotherapy. I feel so panicky at the thought of having to stop HRT. They’ve advised that I start to reduce it. Thought of having to do this naturally fills me with fear and uncertainty. Has anybody else had to come with HRT and if so what remedies did they use? Also, I don’t even know about what stage I am in in my menopause x

  • Hello Jellybean1972

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently been diagnsoed with breast cancer and that as a result you're likley to be facing some changes, and a possible stop, for your HRT. It's understandable that you might be feelig anxious and overwhelemed by things.

Do make an appointment with your GP, or the doctor that manages your HRT, when you're able to to discuss your situation. Do make sure that you tell them about any particular concerns that you have so that alternative ways to manage the menopausal symptoms can be talked through.

If it would help to chat with one of our nurses for some advice and support you're most welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any information they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that things progress smoothly for you.

    Best wishes,
