Lung cancer

Just been diagnosed with lung cancer, waiting to see surgeon for operation. It was a chance find so was not expecting it, feeling very stressed and unsure of what to expect.

  • Hi Dajo,

It must have been such a shock for you to be diagnosed with lung cancer and even more so as it was discovered by chance so it was not something you were expecting. This is bound to be such an anxious time for you as you are unsure what to expect and it all involves a lot of waiting, waiting for information, waiting for clarification, waiting for all the details of treatment and of your diagnosis.

While you are waiting it might be worth reading the information we have on our website on treatment for lung cancer including on surgery for lung cancer - you will get an idea as to what to expect and if you have any questions at any point, it is worth knowing that we have a free helpline you can ring and you can talk to our nurses and ask them questions on 0808 800 4040 - it is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I also wanted you to know that you are not alone and I remember seeing quite a few members posting recently on the forum who have been diagnosed with lung cancer. One example from just 6 days ago is  who posted this thread about their recent lung cancer diagnosis  and who is feeling very much like you at the moment.  also shared their story recently on this thread about being newly diagnosed with lung cancer. These are just a couple of examples and I hope that you will find others on here who are currently going through a similar experience or who have had lung cancer in the past and are willing to share their treatment journeys and experiences with you.

I hope you get more of a sense soon as to what to expect. Keep us updated if you get a chance on how the appointment with the surgeon goes.

    Best wishes,
