Reasonable adjustments at work (reduction of hours due to side effects of cancer treatment) not being met. What can I do? Can anyone help?

just over 2 years ago I had stage 3 advanced/ aggressive prostate cancer, had radiotherapy and now on hormone injection,  just over a year ago, I asked my  company  for flexible hours, from a 5 day week to a 4 day week, it was granted,  with my side effects from the hormone treatment is causing more fatigue, aches and pains, most days the pains are bad due my job having to stand a lot of the time, I have asked to reduce my hours to 3 day week (part time) but they have said due to the operational requirements, they have denied me the request.

can anyone help

  • Hello Dagenham

I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling with the side effects of treatment for prostate cancer. It sounds like you've been going through a difficult time. It's understandable that you're feeling frustrated that your employer has been unable to meet your most recent request to adjust your working hours.

The Macmillan website has some information which may be helpful. We also have a thread where others have recently shared some of their struggles with employment since being diagnosed with cancer. You might be able to chat with those community members for some support and advice as well.

I'd also suggest talking with your specialist cancer nurse or Consultant about the side effects that you're struggling with. It may be that they can help to improve some of these symptoms.

    Best wishes,
