Due to have mask fitted next week for first radiotherapy session.
Had mine fitted last week. The staff were incredibly reassuring. I start RT in 10 days for tonsil cancer
Hi, I have tonsil cancer too. What a scary time. Had the tonsil out, loads of teeth and I start treatment 5th January.. 7 weeks of Radiotherapy and 2 chemo session..
How are you getting on?
Hope you don't mind me messaging
Hi, The mask fitting was a bit daunting as I'm quite claustrophobic, but although it's not pleasant, I'm actually getting used to it.
The first 2 weeks of RT were OK, but just having completed my 3rd week, the side effects are kicking in. Sore throat +++, mouth ulcers & fatigue.
I've been prescribed oramorph which I use sparingly, plus liquid paracetamol & mouth, which help (sometimes!) Some days are better than others. Good Luck!
Oh bless you.. I have been warned about the sore mouth etc.. Do you have the fortisip drinks on days eating might not be easy? Or do you have the peg feed tube?
Is the fatigue manageable or are you sleeping most of the day?
The mask hasn't bothered me that much as I am lucky I'm not claustrophobic. You have done amazing coping with it.
Keep in touch it will be good to talk x
Thank you for your kind comments, & yes, I'm happy to stay in touch.
I had my PEG fit in early Nov., & so glad I did. I have Fresubin bottles which originally I could drink, but now due to my sore throat & the fact that I really don't like the taste, I'm using my tube. Somedays I can manage some soup, but I'm OK having Fresubin via the tube if not. I'm OK with fluids.
The fatigue is manageable, but can vary day to day. I haven't had to take to my bed yet!
