Metamorphosis — an exploration of illness, endurance, and the art of becoming.

Hello everyone,

I’m currently developing an art project inspired by my personal experience with nasopharyngeal (head and neck) cancer. The project, titled Metamorphosis, is a mixed-media exploration of what it feels like to live through illness — combining painting, illustration, photography, and installation work to capture both the physical and emotional reality of this journey.

Each piece in the series focuses on different parts of the body affected by the tumour and treatment, translating invisible symptoms such as chronic migraines, hearing loss, sensory distortion, nerve pain, body shocks, and difficulties with eating or breathing into visual form. By using layered materials and varied media, I aim to show the complexity, fragmentation, and transformation that occur within the body and mind during cancer.

Although the work acknowledges pain, fear, and uncertainty, Metamorphosis is ultimately about resilience, adaptation, and the strength that emerges from vulnerability. It’s a reflection on the process of becoming — even in the midst of suffering — and the light that creativity can bring into dark moments.

My hope is to share this project with local communities, NHS teams, cancer charities, support networks, and people affected by cancer, both in person and online.

Thank you for reading, and for being part of a community that supports understanding, healing, and connection.
