Awaiting results investigations

hi I’m new to this forum
I’m 68-year-old lady with a lovely partner and a beautiful 27-year-old son who is my world

I have Blood in my urine which was first found on the 10th of October when I went to the GP with severe stabbing pains in my back since then I’ve had two more tests both have blood in the urine I had an ultrasound on my kidneys I was it still experience intermittent severe pain I called my GP again Who urgently referred to urology department for further tests.
The nurse  in urology called me and asked me a number of questions and  informed me I was not a high risk patient as I did not smoke she referred me for CT Scan i had a CT scan last Wednesday and I’m  awaiting results The CT nurse told me it could be up to 2 weeks I have all the symptoms of bladder cancer

I am very anxious and upset. I don’t know where to turn. I feel I’m in a void and nobody cares. I’m considering taking myself to A&E and queueing up for hours

  • Hello Minie

Welcome to the forum. Almost everyone here knows what it is like waitiing for results it is the worst part of the process. Anxiety takes over your life. Talking to someone close about your concerns can help with this. Once you have a diagnosis, and it may not be cancer, you can get on with getting treated. For some reason this bit is easier once you have clear path forward. Unless your symptoms really worsen there is not much to be gained from going to A&E. Wishing for a good outcome for you.

  • Many thanks, Ed. I really appreciate your words

  • Hi Minie,

I can certainly empathise with you, waiting for test results is the worst, it’s such a lonely time.

I had a trace of blood in my stools and then urine, been unwell since September and before on and off.. gastroscopy and ct colonoscopy, both on urgent two week pathway, gastroscopy clear, bloods ok, appetite and not losing weight.

Stabbing pain in back and urine smelling of ammonia so US on urinalysis tract tomorrow ( no way can I drink a litre of water and hold it!,

Keep in touch so we can compare notes and cheer each other up.. if it’s any consolation I have sat in A&E for hours, been seen and sent home… !

hi Carol thank you for your message. I’m still waiting for my CT scan results it’s the waiting that makes me feel so sick and anxious plus the fact they said I’m not high risk for cancer as  I don’t smoke so I have to wait 2 weeks for my results before I have camera investigating

good luck for your test tomorrow I’ll keep in touch

Thanks so much for thinking of me, luckily I had a super radiographer who told me my right kidney and bladder were normal, he couldn’t get a good enough picture of the left kidney, thinks it’s normal but has booked a CT just to be sure. Hoping the Colonoscopy report will be today, it’s two weeks since ai had it.

How are you in yourself, apart from the anxiety, are you losing weight or have no appetite?

I do believe it’s the waiting that makes us feel much worse, certainly the weather doesn’t help.

Have you family you can talk to?

    thinking of you
