Undergoing investigation for suspected ovarian cancer

Hi,

I am new to the forum. I am 51 with a 12yo son, a lovely partner and also a beautiful labrador that won't leave my side as he knows Mum is poorly.

I have had blood tests/ ultrasound  for suspected ovarian cancer. I see a specialist next week for diagnosis. My symptoms are many but the worst is currently fluid retention in my abdomen. I'm booked in to have it drained in a few days, this cannot come soon enough. I have been referred for a CT scan too as the ultrasound wasn't clear due to the fluid build up. The scan did show a mass that needs addressing.

My head is spiralling and the unknown future is terrifying. I'm reaching out to see if anybody has any wise words for this limbo time I find myself in?

I feel like I have a huge ticking bomb inside me.

thanks

  • I will outline my journey for you.
I started my first course of chemo in October 2024, 6 sessions.i was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian with metastatic spread. I was in a very poor physical state, had lost a lot of weight but looked very bloated, Ascites.  I was given all info., to make an informed decision. I declined surgery ,and the surgeon understood this due to my weak state.
after the course of chemo I did have stabilisation and was regaining weight, strength and mobility.   I then had RUCAPARIB prescribed as an ongoing treatment.  Due to a tooth extraction I came off tablets as advised.   After CT scan it was noted I had a few extra ‘spots’, so more chemo advised.  I am now just post 5th session, with 1 more to come. Then CT scan with a look at the way forward.

It has been gruelling of course, with many side effects, but I believe I’m in a much better place, feel more able to be positive. Trying to increase my stamina little by little.

At times I’ve felt flat in mood, with strange feelings., but it usually all improving, so I go forward with hope and trust.

    regards Rose-w
