Appointment booked after lump found in breast. Didn't realise it could take up to 2 hours. Feeling scared.

Hi, I found a lump last weekend and I have been given an appointment for a mammogram, when I read up what would happen at the appointment I didn’t realise it could be up to 2 hours long with a mammogram and possible diagnostic tests all done at the same time. I am terrified. My sister in law is coming with me. Just feel scared.

  • Hi there.Feeling scared is absolutely normal and wise.

You did well to address the lump. The unknown is scary. The appointment might take some time and that is very good because it means that they will do all tests to ensure you all (you & the medical team) know what that thing is.And then you will be able to deal with it accordingly.

I feel stronger when I have knowledge.

Nice that you ll have someone with you.

  • I found a lump and also had to go for a check up. Its to get everything done in the one appointment rather than having to wait on results & then be called back. I was naive & went alone. I unfortunately have been diagnosed with Breast cancer, but sitting in the appt, i saw a lot of people leave earlier. You may not need all the different steps if they do the mammogram & ultrasound and find it isn't anything of concern. Try to go in & be positive (easier said than done). All the staff at these appointments are lovely & there to help. Good luck xxx
