  • Hello shaz

I can relate to your problems with radiotherapy. I had treatment to my head jaw neck and throat 10 years ago for metastatic skin cancer.  But I was informed about the problems of fibrosis. I was given a set of excercises to do for the rest of my life. Neck stretching, forceful swallowing tongue stretching and mouth and lip excercise. I still need to drink while eating as my saliva glands were removed and the area irradiated. I am also at risk of osteodental necrosis of the jaw and keep up good oral hygeine and use high flouride duraphat toothpaste to help with this. Bread potatoes crisps chips crackers I find tricky to swallow. My hearing returned after a few months but is still not good. Sense of smell is ok taste returned after several months but everything tastes a bit salty soapy. At the time I was desperate to get on with treatment and deal with the consequences later including the possiblity of future radiation induced cancer. Im still here alive and kicking and that is all that matters.
