After lumpectomy, awaiting a start date for radiotherapy

I am awaiting a start date for radiotherapy.

They are looking at 3rd Nov as the start date.

So that is only bone week away.

I had a lumpectomy to remove precancerous cells  and they call the radiotherapy an insurance policy.

I made the the mistake of googling what I will look like after 15 doses , Mon to Fri  for 3 weeks and it is all I can see when I close my eyes..

  • Hi PWD,

I hope that you have recovered well from your lumpectomy. We usually advise people not to Google prior to diagnosis or treatment, as it seldom provides any answers and only serves to scare people. This is because much of the information is poorly researched, out-of-date and aimed at the more spectacular cases.

Radiotherapy has improved tremendously for patients in recent years. It now targets the area to be treated more accurately and doesn't cause the same problems that it used to. Most people cope with it well now and find that the worst part of treatment is the frequent travelling for sessions, which can be quite tiring.

I do hope that it all goes well for you, despite your reservations. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here or you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

Thsnk you, that is very helpful.

I guess they only show the most graphic photos and as you say they may be quite old. And info out of date.

    Thsnk and take care
