I have Bowel cancer that has spread to the liver.

Hi,

I am currently undergoing palliative chemotherapy treatment, I have had four cycles of Chemotherapy with very few minor side effects.

I have recently had some good news that the tumours are reducing in size. This has given me some hope that there maybe other treatments available to me when I complete my chemotherapy cycles.

  • Does anyone have any good news stories for anyone in my situation?

  • Hello Dbunza,,

Ten years ago l was diagnosed with bowel cancer.Six cycles of chemo/radiotherapy was followed by an 8 week break before planned bowel resection, A Pre- surgery scan showed that it gone on a vacation to my liver, suddenly all my balloons were filled with lead.

Rushed in to liver surgery as it leapfrogged the bowel resection and the surgeon just managed by the smallest of squeaks to have a few weeks of margin spread to excise the tumours, removing over 60% across both lobes.

Hard 2 weeks following surgery, but thereafter a complete doddle with no lasting after effects.

So thats the thing, shrinking the tumours allowing the opportunity for resection is option one. If thats not possible then the fact that your chemo has had a beneficial effect on the tumours it points toward successful future treatment in holding it at bay.

Like all Cancer patients going through treatment, you have no guarentee of future outcomes, but you should never lose sight of the possibility of a very positive outcome. That you have had some positives in your treatment so far bodes well for your journey to recovery, and l hope that you continue along that path.

Two things l can offer from my experience, keep your stress levels to the lowest possible to allow your body to do its healing and bring the best possible you forward to future treatmnent. And know that the possibility to emerge into a tremendous future healthy and active life exists.

l hope you continue to move forward gently with a quiet positive determination to your destination of choice,

    David

  • Dear David,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your story and words of encouragement. Reading about your experience — from the challenges you faced to the strength and optimism you carried through — was both inspiring and deeply comforting.

Your perspective on treatment and recovery really resonated with me, especially your reminder to focus on reducing stress and trusting in the body’s ability to heal. It’s reassuring to hear that you were able to come through such an intense journey and return to good health.

I truly appreciate your kindness and the hope you’ve shared. Messages like yours make a real difference and help me stay positive and focused on the path ahead.
