I am recovering from rectal cancer

I am, thankfully, recovering from Rectal Cancer. I had the Papillion treatment. Which was fantastic.

I'm now heading to my fourth 3 monthly check ups. I have an MRI this Thursday. Then I will have sigmoidoscopy in November. This then goes to an MDT meeting in Liverpool for analysis.

I enjoy a well made cappuccino (who doesn't) but I noticed when I do have one, it goes straight through me with dire consequences the relegate me to my bathroom.  My question is, is this normal?

Thank you in advance

John

  • great that you are in recovery,John coffee has that effect on a lot of people who have nothing wrong with them, dont worry to much about it.But mention it to your docter at next visit

  • I've only had the problem since having cancer. Prior to getting diagnosed in February of '24, I only ever drank coffee when out and about.  Especially Cappuccino.

  • Prior to getting diagnosed with cancer in February of '24, I only ever drank coffee when out and about.,especially Cappuccino.  It appears the when I drink coffee or strong real ales, I have discharges from my back passage.  I was just wondering, given the  fact that Coffee is a natural relaxative/stimulant, if this sudden reaction is related or linked to rectal cancer.

  • Hi John  I have rectal cancer stage 3, could you tell me what treatment  you had in would be very thankful.  Pleased that your improving. Coffee and milky drinks have the same affect to me, so would think its reasonably normal.

  • Hello Tony,

I had papillion contact radiotherapy therapy treatment. Type it in youtube.  It's a new concept where they put a probe where the sun doesn't shine.  As the name implies, it literally touches the cancer and melts it away. The cancer must be less than 3cm however. The actual radiotherapy treatment take 60 or so, seconds. You get dressed after, have a chat and away you go. You go in to hospital and literally walk away 40 to 45 minutes later.  I went sightseeing immediately after the treatment on day 1. The treatment is a burn and gradually gets more sore over 3 to 4 days.  5th day I was fine and dandy.
