Dee W - struggling after 2nd breast cancer surgery

Hi All,

Yet another newbie here! I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in September and since then I've had a lumpectomy (22mm) and 1 lymph node removed on 10th Sept, which showed another small lump (5mm) in the node! Then on 1st Oct I had the rest of the nodes removed on that side. I'm waiting on the follow up results for that surgery on Friday 17th Oct. Since the second surgery I've had an eruption of lymph fluid twice now from the lymph surgical scar and been put on Penicillin now for a week. Thankfully I was at home with both eruptions (unlike my sister, who some years ago, had the same at the checkout in Tesco's).

At present I'm wearing a kind of toga made from half of a bed wetting pad (that's another story!) and keeping away from the sofa as it's dripping like a busted fridge! Has anyone else gone thru the same thing recently? .... and do you know if the Docs are more likely to put a drip bag in place on Friday rather than proceed with a care plan?

Thanks in advance

Dee

  • Hello Dee and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

You've been through a lot since September and I am sorry to hear you have been struggling after your second breast cancer surgery - those eruptions don't sound fun poor you and I hope that the penicillin will improve things for you. At least you were at home when it happened - your sister was not so lucky with this happening at the checkout at Tesco's. Sounds awful though what happened to you and I hope that you will hear from other members of our community who have experienced something similar in the past after surgery.

I am not sure myself whether the doctors are more likely to put a drip bag in place on Friday - perhaps you could get in touch with your medical team and ask them what the plan is likely to be? Feel free also to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses - you can call them Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm on this free number 0808 800 4040.

I hope that you will hear from other members of our community who have been in this situation before and faced similar struggles after breast cancer surgery and that they will come and share their experience with you.

    Best wishes,
