In May of this year I underwent an operation on my lower left lung, to remove a nodule. The surgeon said he could not remove a larger wedge as the lung was spongy. He did not say he wasn't able to retrieve the nodule. Therefore I was under the impression the nodule had been taken. Even at the follow up clinic I was not informed the nodule had not been retrieved. Two months following the operation I was informed by telephone I was cancer free. The relief I felt was wonderful to say the least.
Then in September I saw the Doctor who made the referral to the surgeon. He told me a small piece of the nodule was still in my lung and I would have to have radiotherapy which I accepted. Then two weeks later I recieved a letter from the doctor saying that the nodule had not removed!! To say I was angry and confused is an under statement. I immediately made an appointment to see the doctor again. I expressed my concerns and reiterated what he had told me. Which he put down to me not understanding what he had said. I along with my husband heard him clearly say ' a little piece '. I was referred to an Oncologist who I feel gave me an honest explanation. The nodule is still there and because a biopsy has not been taken off the nodule, they are treating it as a cancer. He also said there were other nodulesI in my lung which did not did not treatment. At a later date I was told i had MZL. Which the oncologist said they would not treat it. It will be a watch and wait. All told this has been on going for ten months.
