  • Hi MrBedger,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can see you have also posted elsewhere on the forum and received a reply from another member. Hopefully it has been helpful to write things down here.

It sounds like you're still waiting to find out more - possibly via tests, or waiting for results. If so, I hope it's not long to wait to get the information you need. Where possible, try to take things a day at a time and keep busy to help keep your mind off the worries. I know this can be easier said than done.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Hello MrBedger,

l found that from the outset it was better to couch my anxiety in terms of being concerned as opposed to being frightened. It would seem that initially there is not more than a cigarette paper between the two terms, but in your forward going mindset you might be surprised that how you approach upcoming issues can make so much change for the better.

Being scared tends to make your mind want to flee, hide and distance from a problem, whereas being concerned makes you want to walk towards one and seek the best ways to mitigate ongoing issues.

Since you are where you are and cannot change that, the positives left in your control are of how you handle your situation going forward and minimise the potentially added downsides of increased stress.

Your initial feelings are completely understandable at the outset of bad news, the key to making your journey easier is to move your mind on from that as soon as possible and focus on what you can bring to your future treatment. Given that the medical and surgery issues will be covered by third parties all you can offer is the least stressed calm body you can possibly provide for their treatment to have the best possible outcome

l hope all goes well for you moving forward,

    David

  • Thanks so much David really helpful and I truly appreciate your kind and thoughtful comments

  • Hi, I was diagnosed with rectal cancer 12 months ago  I have been through all the emotions you can think off. There is help available, I have been humbled by the advice and help I have received and I am now coming to terms with it. Mine is terminal but most can be treated so try and be positive and don't Google to much.

    Regards

    Tony
