Neuroendocrine Carcinoma - struggling with my anxiety whilst I wait for my appointment to see the specialist. How you do cope?

Hi . I have recently been diagnosed with Neuroendocrine Cancer after having tumours removed and a small bowel resection. I am currently struggling with high anxiety as my appointment to see a specialist is not until the end of the month.

How do you guys deal with anxiety ? I live by the sea, so I do walk my dog on the beach and I read alot. But it really is becoming overwhelming.

  • Hello KSJ

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently been diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer (NETS). It's understandable that you're feeling anxious ahead of your appointment with the specialist later this month.

Have you been given contact details for a specialist cancer nurse that you can contact? If so, then it might be a good idea to give them a call and let them know how you're feeling. Hopefully they can give you some reassurance. Alternatively, you're welcome to call our nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can.

We have a thread on the forum with some tips and advice about how to cope with waiting for news that you might find helpful to read through. It's great to hear that you're getting out and about, as lots of people find that exercise and being outdoors in the fresh air can help with managing anxiety during difficult times. If you feel that things are becoming more difficult to manage, then you can always talk with your GP about other options that may be available to you.

Hopefully your specialist will be able to give you some positive news when you see them later this month. Keep posting here in the forum if it helps to have a safe space to put down in writing how you're feeling and do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
