Doris - 13cm kidney tumour removed in 2023 but a nodule was found in the opposite adrenal gland this year. Anxiously waiting for next scan

Hi. I had radical nephrectomy 2023 due to a 13cms kidney tumour. No symptoms but felt an oblong lump on my right side. Had immunotherapy and All good until this year when a nodule appeared on the opposite adrenal gland so they removed that so now on steroids. I was told it doesnt mean the treatment didnt work and its possible it lessoned the chance of it spreading elsewhere but im still anxious for the next scan which should be October but i havent heard from urology yet and i will be chasing that soon

  • Hi Doris84,

I just wanted to reach out and give you a bit of hope. My Dad was diagnosed with Kidney cancer 10 years ago. He was stage 4 and it had spread to his adrenal glands, lungs and bones. He was put on a targeted drug called Sutent and it did a really good job at keeping his cancer at bay for many years. I guess I want you to know that even if it is the worse case scenario , it doesn’t mean it’s the end.

Our cancer journey has been up and down for the past 10 years and if that’s taught us anything it’s not to give up hope. Cancer treatments are improving each month. The drug that’s helped my dad didn’t exist 15 years ago. Kideny cancer survival is improving and my dad is testament to that.

10 years on, we are grateful we didn’t let my Dads cancer stop us from living. We would have missed the enjoyment in 10 whole years of life if he had. Ironically during this time we have lost several other family members from different issues during this same period - so it really goes to show none of us know what’s round the corner.

I hope this perhaps brings you some small comfort. Your situation sounds really positive but should it be a situation you dread, there are treatments which will help

  • Aw thank you for that. It does give me hope. Fingers crossed x
