My name is Malcolm and it's about my Oncologist phone call

I've had my first CT 6 months ago just after I had my bladder, prostate and lymph nodes removed and two weeks later I got a letter from the doctor telling me there was no spread of the disease but one of my lymph nodes was swollen but the doctor said he wasn't worried about it. Now 6 months later, I've got another CT and on Thursday the 4th September then I got a text from my doctor on Saturday the 6th September saying he is going to call me on Tuesday the 9th  and I was wondering why it seems quicker than last time, when he just sent me a letter, is this it a bad sign, I'm really nervous and I just can not sleep

  • Hi   I'm hoping you have had good news. X

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat, Malcolm.

Thank you for sharing what you’re going through, it’s completely understandable that you’re feeling nervous and struggling to sleep. Waiting for results can be incredibly stressful, especially when things feel different from last time.

It’s natural to start wondering what a quicker response might mean, especially when your last update came by letter. But sometimes a phone call is just the doctor’s way of giving you results more directly or making sure you have the chance to ask questions, not necessarily a sign that something is wrong. That said, your feelings are completely valid, and you're not alone in feeling anxious while waiting.

You’ve already been through a lot with your surgery and follow-up scans, and I hope the phone call on Tuesday brings some clarity and reassurance. If you’d find it helpful to talk things through before then, our nurses are here to support you. You can reach them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

I hope you get the clarity you seek soon.

    All the best,
    Renata, Cancer Chat Moderator
