Newly diagnosed today with advanced prostate cancer

Very newly told I have advanced prostate cancer (this afternoon) spread to my bones I don't know how to organise my thoughts..I'm worried about the effect on my wife and family.

It's a big shock as I have no symptoms and it was found after I had a Holep procedure and the biopsies taken at that time revealed this.

My consultant intends to start hormone injections soon.I'm 85.

  • A very warm welcome to Cancer Chat Sour-do, although I'm sorry to hear you've been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer.

It's completely understandable, and natural, for your mind to be all over the place at the moment as a cancer diagnosis can bring about so many thoughts and emotions

I'm sure some of our members will stop by soon to share their experiences and offer you their support and advice, but if it would help to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses they're just a phone call away on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to support you and address any further questions or concerns you may have at this time.

We're thinking of you Sour-do and wishing you all the best with your hormone injections when they begin.

    Kind regards,

  • Many thanks for your response Steph. After the few days since I was first told

about my cancer I'm slowly coming to terms with things and beginning to feel a bit more positive and your kind words help a lot

    Les

  • That's good to hear Les. Be kind to yourself and give yourself all the time you need to process this news you've been given.

We do have quite a few prostate cancer members within our community so I hope you hear from some of them but like I said above, if there's anything you want to discuss further, just give our cancer nurses a call.

Keep posting if you find it helpful Les, and remember that we'll always be here for you.

    Kind regards,
