biochemical relapse after robotic prostrate removal

cancer detected after 8 months with PSA started to rise 0.2 then 3 months later 0.4.

it had spread out side prostrate with a chunk removed adjacent to pelvic wall

pathology confirms its T4 and gleason 9.

have started HT firmagon but have declined declined salvage radiotherapy at this stage after just about achieving continence again after surgery.

the prospect for double incontinence and decline in quality of life seemed a significant risk when discussing with oncology team.

however being an aggressive cancer feel as if i am just a ticking time bomb waiting for inevitable? spread of the disease by doing nothing really proactive in trying to arrest cancer progress.

wondering if i have made the right decision and if there is anything else i should consider?

  • Hello tui4stui,

Such difficult decisions you have had to face and I can completely understand why you would not want to face the possibility of double incontinence and decline in quality of life. You did well to discuss all this with the oncology team. As they are aware of all your medical details and history, they will be in the best position to tell you all the pros and cons of each option and they will have all the expertise to answer your questions and give you the guidance you need. It must be so hard for you not to know for sure whether you have made the right decision or if there is anything else you should consider. Make sure you ask your medical team whether there are other treatment options available to you that would have minimal side effects. I think having all the knowledge and information is key here so that you can make an informed decision that would work best for you so don't hesitate to write down anything you want to ask your medical team about and try and find time to discuss/explore each option with them.

Our cancer nurses are just a free phone call away if you would like to talk things through with them and get their insights on the question so don't hesitate to get in touch with them on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

Other members of our community may have faced similar difficult treatment choices and they will be able to relate to the feeling of not knowing whether the right decision was made and every possible avenue explored. I hope that they will be along shortly to share their experiences and thoughts with you.

    Best wishes,
