Personal - both my parents had cancer

My parents both had cancer and it really gets to me as people make jokes about it . It really breaks my heart about the topic. I was stopped today by a gorgeous lady to sign up for the charity and I really will love to join it as it’s a really touchy subject for me.

  • Hello p8_shig0 and a warm welcome to our forum,

I am so sorry your parents both had cancer - it is truly heart-breaking and it's unbelievable that people have made jokes about it - how insensitive that was of them! Try not to pay attention to these thoughtless people and I hope that there are also other people in your life who are more understanding of how you have been affected by cancer and who can give you support whenever you need it. Here on Cancer Chat no one would ever make jokes about the fact both your parents had cancer and you can count on the empathy of others who have been affected by cancer in a similar way. We are all here for you anytime you need to talk as it helps sometimes to write things down here and talk to others who truly understand what you are going through.

Thank you too for your enthusiasm about the charity and I just wanted you to know you are not alone and I hope others will pop by and say hello.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi p8shig

I have incurable cancer and receive palliative care. One of my parents died from cancer. Humour is just a way of coping with this dreadful disease. If my wife and I didnt joke about it I would crack up. I am mindful of upsetting others not in my circle. Maybe make a few allowances when a joke is not a deliberate act to upset. Thank you for supporting a worthwhile charity that does make a difference to peoples lives.
