Delay in treatment for prostate cancer

I am 79 years old and have recently been diagnosed with stage 111c prostate cancer ,Gleason 9

My consultant requested Pet scan to check for spread as I am getting hip pains.

On the morning of the scan appointment just 20 minutes before I was told the the scan had been cancelled due to tracer shortage.

The scan has been rescheduled for two weeks later. This has prevented the start of hormone treatment and caused further stress and concern that the delay will affect the outcome of my condition

  • Welcome to our forum, Captain22.

I’m sorry to hear about your diagnosis and the delay in your scan.

Waiting for tests and treatment to begin is often one of the hardest parts, and to be told so last minute that your PET scan couldn’t go ahead must have been frustrating, especially when you're already managing pain and uncertainty.

We have some other forum members who will understand you’re going through at the moment, and I hope some of them will be along shortly to offer advice and support.

If it would help to talk things through with someone with a medical background, our nurses are available on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you feel you need support while you wait, we're here for you.

    Best wishes,
