Health anxiety is through the roof - waiting for biopsy results to come through and just found out it could be delayed by another 2 - 3 weeks

Hi, new here and for that last few years I've been suffering with awful abdominal pain, I went and seen so many doctors and kept getting fobbed off with ibs/crohn's disease

Fast forward to middle of last year, my pains were getting so bad and my periods were all over the place, I finally changed doctors and found one who actually took me seriously, she booked me in to get an ultrasound and found out my  lining is irregular with thickness of 24mm, I got told I'd be put on the 2 week list to see a gynaecologist as for my age it shouldn't be that thick (I'm 28)  but I ended up waiting 8 months for my appointment!

When i finally got my appointment she said i need to have a biopsy, she struggled getting into my cervix and said my cervix had a rough patch, the whole experience was awful and so painful my legs wouldnt stop shaking for ages, she told me I'll get my results in 2-3 weeks, I've now been waiting 4 weeks, I've rang the hospital to be told my results still aren't back, the women on the phone spoke to the lab my biopsy got sent to and told me there's a huge back log so I could now be waiting another 2-3 weeks to hear back, my minds just all over the place at the minute as I just want answers, my pelvic pains are getting worse to the point i can't stand or sit for too long, do I take it as good news that my results haven't been seen yet? How long did everyone wait for their biopsy results? I just pray by next week I'll finally have my results!

  • I'm so sorry to hear all that you have been through over the last year Hayleyj. It sounds like it has been incredibly tough and finding out you could be waiting another 2 -3 weeks for your results must be very frustrating.

So many of our members know how tough this time can be, so you are not alone Hayleyj, and I'm sure it won't be long until some of them stop by to share their experiences and advice.

I hope some of these tips we have on how to cope with waiting for news will help to ease your mind, but it may be worth having a look at some of the advice the NHS have on managing anxiety as well.

As you've mentioned your pains have got worse, do make sure you speak to your GP so they can provide you with something that can help with the pain. They will also be able to support you with your health anxiety whilst you wait for your results.

We're sending you all our support Hayleyj and will have our fingers crossed your results will bring good news when they come through.

    All the best,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
