Letrozole - skin rash

Hello

My first post on here. Newly diagnosed and put on Letrozole which I’ve been taking for 3 weeks now. All of a sudden I seem to be getting all the side effect!

Fatigue, sleeplessness, muscle aches and pains in joints (even more than the normal ) and a couple of days ago a patchy rash has appeared in areas all the way down the inside of my right leg and a nasty area above my right buttock. They are like blisters some worse than others.

i went to my pharmacist who advised a steroid cream (trimovate) so I’ve applied that but if it hasn’t improved by Monday I’ll go and get my GP to check it out.

Has anyone else suffered with this side effect?

  • Hello Ollerenshaw and welcome to Cancer Chat,

I'm sorry to hear about the side effects you're having. Rashes are not the most common of side effects, but they can occur so you did the right thing in going to a pharmacist and do speak to your GP if if doesn't improve. You can find more information on Letrozole on our website, including ways of coping with side effects and if you'd like to talk about anything relating to your diagnosis or treatment, you can contact our team of cancer nurses on the freephone 0808 800 4040. Lines are open 9 to 5 Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes to you,

  • Hi,

So it turns out my rash was/is shingles and not a side effect at all! More challenges to contend with! I think it was probably stress induced as the last couple of months since my diagnosis has seen my life change so much. There’s been so much to process and learn and come to terms with but I’m getting there.

As one of the breast care nurses said to me “this is just a blip in your life. You will get through it and there is light at the end of the tunnel”

    Best wishes to all
