Diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. No visible secondaries at the moment but my nurse has said my treatment is now palliative

Hi everyone, I have been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I have a 20mm tumour in the body of my pancreas. There are no visible tumours anywhere else in my body but the pet scan showed one 6mm neck node and two nodes in my peritoneum with some avidity. A biopsy of the neck node shows some "indication" that active cells relate to my tumour. In effect I have no visible secondaries at the moment. I am 74 and in exceptional health. I take no medication and walk 2 - 3 miles a day. My nurse basically says that my treatment is now palliative and hopefully the cells in my nodes will disappear and my tumour may shrink but will be contained. I would love to hear from anyone with experience of the awful cancer, perhaps in my age group and whether I am now written off and left with a short future. I have a number of dependants, some of whom are disabled and I worry about their future, let alone my own.

  • Welcome to the forum Steve although I'm sorry you've been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

It's good to hear that there are no visible secondaries at the moment but it must have been very difficult to have hear that your treatment is now palliative.

Hopefully some of our members who are in a similar situation, or supporting family members or friends who are, will be along soon to offer their support and advice but if it would help to talk things through with someone then do give our cancer nurses a call. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to support you and answer any other questions you may have at this time.

Do keep posting if you find it useful Steve and remember that we will always be here for you.

    Kind regards,
