Unsure about chemo - been offered docetaxel and the side effects sound awful

I've had previous chemo for lung cancer which didn't work and I've now been offered docetaxel but the side effects look dreadful.  Is anyone receiving it and could tell me if they really are as bad as they sound?  I don't want to choose quantity over quality of life and am really worried about making the wrong choice.  Thank you in advance.

  • Hello Alinda and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I'm sorry to hear the previous chemo you had didn't work and that you're a bit reluctant about going ahead with the docetaxel.

There have definitely been posts about this on the forum before which you can find by using the 'search forum' option above but hopefully some of our members who are currently on this chemo or have had it recently will be along soon to share their experiences and advice.

If it would help to talk through your concerns with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very insightful and will do all they can to support you.

Treatment decisions can be very difficult but just remember, everyone reacts differently and anything you start can always be stopped if the side effects become too much.

We're thinking of you Alinda and sending all our support your way.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
