Hi my mum has got cancer in 2 places in her colon and this has spread to her liver and lungs they have said she is too weak to have chemo she's in so much pain. She now under McMillan and district nurses would I be able to ask for pain relief for her as she keeps forgetting things

  • Hello Gothvamp73

I'm sorry to hear about your Mum's diagnosis and that she's struggling with pain management at the moment. It's understandable that this is a difficult time for you both.

Please do speak with the team responsible for her care, whether that is the Macmillan nurse, district nurse team or the GP about your concerns regarding her pain management. They will be used to patients not necessarily being able to fully communicate their needs and this is where you will need to step in and advocate for your Mum. If they arrange an appointment to come and visit your Mum, maybe it might be helpful if you're able to be there as well.

If it would help to talk things through with one of our nurses for some advice and support you can call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

I do hope that the team can get a better handle on your Mum's pain management and make her more comfortable.

Sending you both my best wishes,
