Dave W - diagnosed with prostate cancer a year ago. Finding it difficult to come to terms with the side effects of the treatment I've had

Dear all. My name is Dave I was diagnosed with prostate cancer twelve months ago. Since then I have had a TURP procedure. Hormone and 21 sessions of radiotherapy. I'm finding it very difficult coming to terms with the side effects. Constant tiredness. Hot sweats. Being extremely emotional and in general not feeling myself anymore. Everyone tells me it gets better but I'm beginning to doubt them. I would appreciate feedback from those who have gone through the mill and perhaps emerged from the other side feeling normal and well again.

  • Hello Dave and welcome to Cancer Chat.

It sounds like you've been through a lot over these last twelve months, and I'm sorry to hear how difficult it has been to cope with the side effects from your treatment.

I hope some of our prostate cancer members stop by soon to share their experiences and advice but if it would help to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses, you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very insightful and will do all they can to support you at this very challenging time.

I hope this information about living with the side effects of hormone therapy and managing fatigue will be useful to you as well but if you haven't done so already, it may be worth reaching out to your GP and/or medical team for further support and advice.

We're thinking of you Dave and really do hope you start feeling better and back to your normal self again soon.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
