Hello - diagnosed with suspected skin cancer yesterday. Feeling numb and have lots of questions

I was diagnosed yesterday by nurse with suspected skin cancer on my face so waiting now to see consultant, still bit numb loads of questions I wish I had asked like can I still go swimming can I still wear makeup and face creams, should I cover it up with a waterproof plaster,I'm hoping I can find the answer here

  • Hi,

Did they tell you which type of skin cancer they suspect? If basal cell or squamous cell, I would contact dermatology for their advice as some of these type of facial cancers can look sore and/or weep. If it's an existing mole that's a suspected melanoma, you should be OK with your usual daily face care etc as it won't affect the mole. Once the suspected cancer has been surgically removed though, you won't be able to do any of these things until it's fully healed & checked by the consultant.

Thank you for that at moment no idea ,as I have psoriasis I have got this small patch under my jaw so I thought when I saw it a couple of years ago thought it was psoriasis but the last few months it's got bigger and started bleeding so that's why I went to doctors yesterday,

If it's bleeding I suggest you don't go swimming or put any face cream or cosmetics on it. Just wash the area with warm water (no soap) until you see the consultant & have an idea of what they think it is. Hopefully you won't be waiting too long & it will be treated successfully.

Thank you,I know what you are saying,it's just I love swimming and classes and go every day,and I feel that if I don't carry on as normal I could start dwelling on it,I have been to chemist and spoke to pharmacist I could wear a waterproof plaster but if it irritates it to stop using,at moment like everyone else that is told my head's a shed and can't concentrate
