Small Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma of the Bladder

Dear All,

This is a post to connect with any members suffering with small cell carcinoma. What were your experiences with chemo and choosing between radical cystectomy or radiotherapy?

I’m at the crossroads of choosing between RC and RT

    1. Hi,  So sorry to hear about your diagnosis, extra pulmonary neuroendocrine carcinomas are rare cancers & information on them is not so easy to come by. My husband had a small cell gastric neuroendocrine carcinoma which had unfortunately spread to his lymph nodes so he was unable to have surgery. From all the information we acquired regarding this high grade cancer, it appears that surgery is the best option if possible. Chemotherapy has good results initially but it is very common for this cancer to return. He did receive a huge benefit from the radiotherapy as it greatly reduced the size of the tumour & improved his quality of life. Had he been a candidate for surgery, he would have definitely gone ahead with it. Hope this information helps a little.
