I was diagnosed with bowel cancer, had surgery in November and have started chemo sessions in tablet form

Hello. My clash with colon cancer started last October when I saw my doctor with recurring stomach cramps. A fit test proved positive and within two weeks I had a colonoscopy which showed a cancer in my bowel. I was seen by a surgeon in mid November and at the end of the month had it removed. A Follow up in January showed a couple of infected lymph nodes remained and in mid February I started my first of eight chemo sessions in tablet form. At the moment I am on session seven and it has been ok. Tumour count tends to fluctuate monthly but that could be caused by the chemo. Up to the start of this I rarely needed to see a doctor about anything so it all came as a shock to the system. I’m feeling good anyway.

  • Hi Ekimjo,

Thank you for coming here and sharing your bowel cancer story. You did well to see the doctor when you noticed these recurring cramps and it's good that things moved fast after that and you had a colonoscopy within two weeks and had the surgery not long after that. You're nearly there with the chemotherapy as you are on session seven - only one session to go, well done! I am glad the treatment has gone ok and I hope that you didn't suffer any significant side effects.

I can imagine it all came as a shock for you if prior to this you never needed to see the doctor but it sounds like you are in capable hands and are looked after well and I am pleased to hear you are feeling good.

You have come to the right place to meet others who have also had a bowel cancer diagnosis and who will understand how you are feeling and what you are going through and I hope that they will be along shortly to say hello and share their own story with you.

Best of luck for those last sessions of your chemotherapy treatment and best wishes,
