Does taking Letrozole make you put on weight
Hi Trixey, I've been on Letrozole since November and haven't had any weight gain. Xx
Hi Trixey,
Yes some people can gain weight with Letrozole, while others don't. I put on 6½ stones with this treatment and it took me quite some time to lose it. How long have you been taking it for?
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
Been taking it for a year, and put a stone on xx
Hi Trixie,
The number one priority just now is to get yourself cancer free. You can worry about your weight after that. If you're up to it, watch what you eat and take plenty of exercise, but don't let it get you down.
I took Tamoxifen for 1 year, then Letrozole for 6½ years and I felt so low at the time that I didn't notice that I was gaining weight. By the time that I did, I found it very hard to shift. I eventually joined a 'Weigh to go class'. Here we were weighed and had our waists measured every week. We then discussed all aspects about food and 'sensible eating' for half an hour, then did half an hour's exercise. This was run by the NHS in conjunction with our local sports centre. The first 12 weeks were free, but we stayed on at the end of that time and just paid for each session.
Now that you know about the weight gain, I hope that you can manage to keep it in check - Good luck!
