Recent surgery: intermediate / high risk grade endometrial cancer spread to the cervix

Hi everyone

I had a hysterectomy 9 weeks ago ; had hystology results 3 weeks ago and discovered that it was stage 2 cancer. My scan results this week were all clear so that’s amazing but I’ve been told I have both internal and external radiotherapy treatment ahead due to the type and risk level of what was removed.
It would be helpful to have this forum if I need support going forward.

Thanks x

  • Hello Woodpigeon and a warm welcome to our forum!

I hope that you are recovering well after the hysterectomy 9 weeks ago and it must have been a bit of a shock to you to discover that it was stage 2 cancer. Do you know what type of cancer you were diagnosed with?

It's good news though that your latest scan results were all clear and it may be a bit stressful to have to go through internal and external radiotherapy but hopefully this means that they can do everything they can to ensure you remain cancer free. If you have any questions about your treatment and what lies ahead, we have a nurse helpline you are welcome to ring on this free number 0808 800 4040 - it is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. Our forum is also here for support anytime you need to reach out to others who have been in a similar place and who understand what you are going through at the moment.

I hope you continue to recover well from the surgery and that the radiotherapy treatment will go smoothly for you.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you Lucie, yes I’m recovering well .. have been building up my fitness a little more the last few weeks walking nearly as much as pre op now.
I will know more regarding the treatment when I have a phone consultation with the oncologist Monday. All I know is that the cancer was endometrial spread to the cervix. It was an intermediate / high risk grade.
it’s a bit daunting but knowing there’s support is reassuring

  • I am glad you are recovering well Woodpigeon - it's great that you are now walking nearly as much as pre-op now! I hope the phone consultation goes well on Monday and that you are given a clear picture of what to expect treatment wise. I hope you don't mind but I have edited the title of your thread slightly to include your cancer type so that it can be more easily spotted by others who may have had a similar diagnosis. I can imagine it's all a bit daunting at the moment but it sounds like you are in very good hands and I hope that you will hear from others who have had the same diagnosis recently.

I've looked around the forum for other members who have been through this before and I noticed for example  's endometrial cancer thread from a few months ago which you are welcome to respond to if you wish. This member was also diagnosed with endometrial cancer, had an operation and was at the time waiting to start radiotherapy so don't hesitate to respond if you wish to do so.

    Best wishes,
