Hi All,
I have had my screening come back HPV positive with low grade dyskaryosis and have been referred straight for colposcopy but when my letter has come through the appointment is in 18 weeks time (I have looked at the NHS guidelines and they say people with my results go on the 18 week pathway but 99% should be seen within 6 weeks). I have called the department and they say they are booking people in my category to 18 weeks and they can't do anything more. The thing that is concerning me most is that I have looked at the signs of cervical cancer and I have them all- heavier and longer periods, more painful periods, changes in discharge and discomfort during and after sex but they started after having the copper IUD fitted and are know side effects of that too so I have put it down to that rather than anything else.
Would the smear have shown cancerous cells if they were there? Should I be pushing for my appointment to be sooner? I feel really worried at the moment and the prospect of waiting 18 weeks to have the colposcopy is making me feel so anxious.
