Hi there,
Just like to say hello and hope everyone is doing & feeling ok on whatever their journey has or is taking them so far.
My husband is now day 3 Post op after having a radical Prostectomy. He was diagnosed about 8 weeks ago and since then its been a busy time. His PSR came back within normal limits but he also had a digital rectal examination by the Practioner at the GP's practice and that is where a nodule was felt on his prostate. Fast forward after a MRI scan & 14 biopsies taken, 11 of which were cancerous. He decided to have surgery which all his medical team agreed given as he is still fairly young (65) he is fit and not overweight. His operation was successful and now he is on the road of recovery over the next few months. He will be seen again in clinic in 8-10 weeks.
Meanwhile, last week I did a FIT test after seeing the GP with bowel concerns and issues. I had a prolapse repair in January 2025 which I thought the problems that the prolapse gave me would be solved but it didn't hence me going to see the GP. The on call GP rang me whilst I was in the hospital collecting my husband to bring him home with the news that one of the FIT tests.
As you can imagine this wasn't the news that I wanted to hear particularly with my husbands diagnosis, the only reassurance the GP could give me was the fact that only one of the FIT tests had come back positive and also I was only 5.5 months post op from my prolapse operation so that was helpful to hear. The national screening tests that come through the letter box to people over a certain age was negative last July and also the colonoscopy I had in March 2024 due to bowel issues was also Ok apart from the prolapse that they could see so I am reassured ( a little!!) by that.
I remain positive both for myself and also for my husband but cant help worry 'what if'.
We are both retired, both in our mid 60's yet feel in our mid 40's, have had an amazing bucket list 6 week holiday last year and have a few more big holidays planned to do on our bucket list, have 9 amazing grandchildren and 4 daughters between us so life is good.
Anyway, I just wanted to get started somewhere on the Cancer research forum whilst I wait for my appointment and then the results.
Wishing everyone involved with Cancer, be that the patient, the families & friends of those involved and the excellent staff in the hospitals, hospices, charities love and positivity on their journeys.
