Hi Deejj,
A very warm welcome to our forum.
I am sorry to hear that you have had 2 lots of surgery. Was this because your margins weren't clear, or did you have a second cancer? I hope that you are coping well with radiotherapy - how many sessions are you due to have?
I had 2 bouts of breast cancer and 1 of pre-cancer, within a year of each other. I had a lumpectomy the first time and a double mastectomy for the others. That was all 15 years ago now and I still lead a busy and fulfilling life.
There are always plenty of people to chat to here This is a great place to gain support and to learn from the experience of others. Do you have a Maggies centre near you? They are dotted throughout the country and offer a number of different services, including counselling, seated yoga, walking groups, alternative therapies, financial advice, advice from a nurse, etc. All of these services are free and you can always pop in for a chat and a welcome cuppa at any time. There are a number of cancer charities throughout the country, which offer similar services, but are operated under different names. Your breast care nurse, practice nurse or other members of your care team may be able to advise you of local services.
Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
Hi Jolamine
Thank you for replying my second surgery was because the margins weren't clear and at the first surgery they took some of the lumpynode out I did not want the rest take on the second surgery so that it why I am have the radiotherapy.
I have not been able to find a local Maggies centre near me.
Thanks again
Kind regards
Dee
Hi Dee,
If you don't have a Maggies locally, do try asking your GP, practice nurse, cancer nurse, local library, Citizen's Advice Bureau and look on local notice boards.. Does your hospital have an advice centre within it? Many do and they can often point you in the right direction. It can also be worth looking for cancer support groups online.
Please let us know how you get on, as chances are that someone else in your area could also benefit from this service.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
Hi Deejj,
If you don't have a Maggies nearby, make sure to ask locally about other cancer support groups in your neighbourhood. Your GP, Practice nurse, consultant, breast care nurse, or other members of your care team may be able to help. You could also ask at your local library, or at the Citizen's Advice Bureau. Your local hospital may have an information centre too. You might also see some notices pinned up in hospital or on notice boards. There might well be some information online about local groups too.
Please let us know how you get on, as this may well help someone else, who is in a similar position, in your local area.
I hope that you manage to find a group. In the meantime, please remember that we are always here for you.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
