Fibroadenoma removal - help

Hi :)

I am 33 and have had a fibroadenoma for 7 years. I have had 3 ultrasound on it over the years, the latest one the beginning of May when I was at the breast clinic for something else that was resolved in that visit. The ultrasound technician advised nothing concerning however because I am over 30 I was offered a biopsy for “reassurance purposes” - it is just under 2cm. Since then I received a call inviting me back in for a follow up which I was expecting, the lady on the phone advised that the consultant said they don’t want me to worry, they haven’t found anything concerning but they want me to go in to discuss removing it.

I am just wanting to hear other people’s positive (if possible because I am anxious) experiences with having their fibroadenoma removed and the reasons why this was offered. Until my apt I won’t know if this is just an option or whether they strongly feel I should and if so why, which is causing a little worry.

Thank you

  • Hi Barony92,

If you haven't been given the full information for why they want to to do this then it is natural to feel a little concerned and to have questions.

It's difficult to advise on this but hopefully it won't be long before your appointment and for you to get the answers you need.

If you'd like to speak to someone in the meantime, you are welcome to give our nurses a call. You can reach them on freephone 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5 (excluding bank holidays).

Otherwise, if others here have similar experience to share then hopefully you'll get more replies soon.

    Wishing you all the best,
