Possible secondary lung cancer in adrenal gland

I’m all up in the air. 3 years ago I had an upper right lobectomy. For 2 years scans all clear but yesterday lungs clear but enlarged adrenal gland. I’m waiting for a CT scan and hopefully a diagnosis. It could be nothing, secondary cancer or new primary (rare). It’s the waiting to know. If it is secondary cancer they will do an MRI  to see if there is other spread. It can be treated with chemo but not cured. I’m rather scared as life expectancy isn’t great. I haven’t told/worried my husband or children with the last bit of info as it might be nothing. I’m a bit of a glass half empty person and I’m just expecting the worst news. It’s currently difficult.

My specialist said she will see me as soon as possible after the scan. My local hospital in NE England is on the ball so I’m hoping I won’t have too much of a wait.

Thanks for listening Jemily

  • A very warm welcome to the Cancer Chat community Jemily although I'm sorry to hear about the enlarged adrenal gland that's been found and for the anxious wait you now have to find out what it means.

This must be a very worrying and stressful time but I'm glad you've reached out to us as so many of our members will know what you're going through, so you are not alone on this journey Jemily, and I'm sure it won't be long until you receive some support and advice.

If it would help to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses whilst you wait, you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m (except bank holidays) and they will do all they can to support you and answer any other questions you may have at this time.

We're wishing you all the best with your CT scan Jemily and will have our fingers crossed for a positive outcome.

    Kind regards,
