Hubby recently diagnosed with distant pancreatic cancer

Hi everyone, just wanted to reach out and see if anyone had any advice or suggestions on keeping my husbands mood good?

He is only 50 and recently was diagnosed with distant pancreatic cancer, it has spread to the liver. He is a fit and healthy man so this has came as a massive shock. It was only identified following him becoming jaundice.

He spent 12 days in hospital and has now discharged awaiting an appointment with oncology to discuss treatments.

I would greatly appreciate any guidance however small

  • Hello,

Sorry to hear about your husbands diagnosis. My dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2022, and he has just celebrated his 80th birthday last month, we found it helpful to read all the stories of other people’s journeys on the pancreatic cancer website to help us through a daunting diagnosis. I hope your husband receives the treatment he needs.

Hi Barony thank you so much for this, it truly means alot to read about your dad's journey. I hope you don't mind me asking but his also spread to the liver? I'm trying to read up on the diagnosis but can't find alot of positive stories regarding pancreatic cancer that has spread to the liver? Apologies if I've over stepped the line

Hi Ljami, no it had not, and I am sorry to hear your husbands has. I cannot remember the exact staging of my dads at diagnosis but we too read up a lot before it was confirmed as it’s the outcome we expected and too felt that there were not many encouraging stories however there is an area on the website where we were able to see some and that helped. Has he been given any indication as to what treatments may be made available to him?

Hi barony. No, we are awaiting the outcome of the MDT meeting on Friday to find out what treatment can be offered. I know that at this stage it will be palliative treatment but still remain hopeful that he can beat this

Having a plan of action and moving out of the limbo of waiting will hopefully help you feel a little more in control. All cancer diagnosis are hard however like you, it was a struggle to find alot of positive information about pancreatic cancer which made it all that much more daunting. You will be supported by all the wonderful nurses and have these forums as well for support but I am sorry that both you and your husband are going through this.
