Non-Hodgkins lymphoma

I've just been told that I have an aggressive  NON - HODGKIN LYMPHOMA.  which is treatable and curable.  So, I feel lucky as some of my friends have not been so lucky.

I was first diagnosed with HODGKIN  LYMPHOMA  in  2022,  had chemo which I didn't deal with so well, at  first but watched a few utube videos and found some of the advice atbout how to  detox the chemo . The first was drinking plenty of water, then having detox baths for the first 4 nights after your chemo session with EPSOM SALTS AND BI CARB, had to stay fir 40 minutes for it to work. This became my routine for 6 months. I used my ear pods to listen t audible on amazon prime and listened to podcasts. I lost all my hair felt really ill but had my good days. Couldn't have any visitors or go in crowded places cause my immune system was so low.

My sister has bought concert tickets for my birthday in a few weeks but I've had to tell her I won't be able to go. I've also just retired and we've bought this amazing motorhome  and mostly kitted it out,  we've been on a couple if trips and took our e-bikes. Our next trip was to travel round Europe starting with Portugal for a few weeks, but my Oncologist told us that Europe might have to wait.

Anyway, I've got to have  3 rounds if R-GCVP then radiotherapy every day ( except weekend) for three weeks. So all together about 12 weeks of treatment,  so I can't really complain.  Oh and I might not lose my hair this time cause my oncologist has tweaked my treatment,  she's just amazing and so positive.  She said I will be CURED completely.  I've just got a tiny stubborn cell in my armpit  that the surgeon couldn't get out.

Does anyone know if the detox will work on these chemo drugs or is their something else I can do to lessen the after effects

  • Hello Ssue and thank you for coming here and sharing your story,

I am sorry to hear you have been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma but I am glad it is treatable and curable. So it's been 3 years since your first Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma diagnosis and it must have been such a tough time for you not being able to have visitors and not being able to go to crowded places. I hope you didn't feel too lonely at the time.

It's such a shame you won't be able to go to the concert your sister invited you to in a few weeks - it would have been such a nice way to celebrate your birthday but perhaps you can do it again on another year. You seem to have some nice plans ahead for you and it's great you have this motorhome all kitted out as well as e-bikes. The trip around Europe starting with Portugal sounds like something to look forward to but it's important you follow your oncologist's advice and wait just a little bit until you get the green light to go. You will enjoy it even more then!

Best of luck for the start of your treatment. There is information on your website you might be interested in having a look at on R-GCVP - I hope the 12 weeks of treatment will go well and that it all goes quickly. Those 12 weeks of treatment will be worth it knowing that the oncologist has reassured you that you will be cured completely. Your oncologist sounds amazing and it might be a good idea to ask her what you could do to minimize the side effects - mention what you did last time too as it's always worth checking with your specialist if these tips you found online are ok for you to follow and also if they have any other advice to help you cope with treatment side effects. Have a look too at our information on chemotherapy side effects where I hope you will find some good tips and if you ever wanted to have a chat with our cancer nurses about this, feel free to ring them on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope that you will hear from other members of our community who have had the same treatment recently and that they will be along shortly to share experiences of what worked best for them.

Good luck with the coming weeks I hope it all goes well and tell yourself that fingers crossed Portugal, nice concerts, all these things are just around the corner once all of this is over!

    Best wishes,
