Suspected GI (gastrointestinal) cancer

Afternoon.

I am a 50-year-old male and my doctor has arranged for testing for suspected GI cancer. I received a good result on my full blood test today, which is something!

Any advice or tips going forward as my endoscopy is on Wednesday.

  • Hello Jamie

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently been referred for investigations for a possible GI cancer. It's understandable that you may be feeling anxious, but it is positive to hear that your blood tests didn't give any immediate cause for concern.

Our website has information about endoscopy that you may find helpful to read before your appointment on Wednesday. In the meantime, if you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses, you're welcome to give them a call. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040 (excluding bank holidays).

I hope that the team can give you some reassurance when you see them on Wednesday. Do let us know how you get on if you're able to.

    Best wishes,
