The silent cancer - has anyone been through this without knowing the cancer had started?

I suspect I have been starting breast cancer and possibly ovarian cancer now for two years. With a chance visit to two A and Es inside 7 weeks I was told about the cyst from a scan and now the breast tissue also. My 1st clinic appt is May 14th. Online it's suggesting I'm at a stage 4 already.  I've checked symptoms and I have them though no nausea or bleeding yet. Bone pain elbow to shoulder has now struck as well. Anyone here been through the silent stage without knowing cancer has started?

  • Hi AngelaK2,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It's good to hear you have an appointment coming up soon - it sounds as though you're waiting for more information including on any potential next steps, so I hope it's not long to wait for this.

My reply here should give your post a little boost so a few more people should see it, and hopefully you'll get some more replies.

I hope that the forum can be useful for you.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Thankyou Ben,  what interests me is whether I've actually been on this silent killer path for some time or if it's very new. It's certainly newly discovered and only by chance. Last night I saw a new brown mark next to the long time brown mark. If so and the new brown mark is the cancerous invader then it has to be very early days which is good. Thanks to the midnight scan at the hospital of my suggested ruptured ovarian cyst. But now I think they're linked.  2 weeks to go for more investigations!

  • Hi AngelaK2,

Also new here and just thought I'd say hello. I guess until you get symptoms cancer could be growing inside any of us unknown. Why do you think you may have started with cancer 2 years ago? And why do you think it might have spread? I think that sometimes you can make yourself believe you have various pains - I know since I found a lump in my breast 10 days ago, I have breast pain when I am sitting around thinking about it but I am not sure whether its just in my head or not.  I have my referral appointment on 9th for scans etc. Have you had yours?

  • Hallo Ellier,

Very nice to hear from you. I only wonder about whether I started cancer 2 yrs ago because that's when the ovarian cyst started. It's been monitored every 6 mths but honestly I think ageing is the background together with talc throughout my life. One month ago I had a sharp pain where the cyst is and was happy to ignore it  but next day I felt poor and by evening decided on A and E. Their scan machine wasn't working but bloods showed plenty of lymphocytes. Sent home to monitor. But 10 days later plenty more pain and spreading across lower abdomen. So different hospital A and E whose scanner was working. The cyst hadn't ruptured. Only leaking, but quite amazingly, it showed a breast mass. Here I am awaiting quickie into their breast clinic for the 14th. Meanwhile I'm slowing down and also putting more detail into my Ŵill and other documents. No serious pain so far.

I've appointed 2 more Executors and am not  yet telling my colleagues and general friends After the 14th I'll start the fast programme and also Soursop both should help to lowèr cancer cell levels. I prefer facing bad stuff with practical measures. How about you? not too long to the 9th.

  • Butt you have yet to even have a diagnosis so whilst of course it's easy to say, there is every chance that it's nothing or can be treated successfully. the fact you have been monitored for the cyst means they were keeping an eye on things and hopefully the breast mass (if it is anything) has been caught early.

How do you know what treatment program you will be on? Or do you mean you will start fasting?

Now of course it's easy for me to say this to you, but taking the advice myself completely another thing.

I am terrified. I have told a couple of close friends and a work colleague who has been through this. But your mind goes to the worst.

  • Good morning. I like your thoughts. It's better I think to range thoughts around worst to best and to let all kinds of emotions just happen. I'd be terrified if I was younger with things still to accomplish but I'm almost 84 and there's more to look at in my past than in my future. I find the future holds more fear under normal circumstances but actually less now with this unexpected addition to my interests. I'm going to fast once the full diagnosis has been delivered , not now because we need the full clinical picture. The fasting which I've read about and seems sensible, restricts nutrition to cancer cells and they don't multiply. The soursop fruit OTC medication from online also sounds worth a try but again , not until the breast clinic has done all it's tests though I've ordered it, to be ready and strike. Are you still going to work? And what line of business is it? I'm active,  sitting on three committees, travelling a bit, going to classical concerts, one tonight on Brass , plus of course, shopping and cleaning etc.

  • Hi Angela

Im sorry to hear that you are worried about your symptoms and cyst. It is best to wait for the results of your tests before worrying about the different scenarios. Then you can either relax or you and your team at the hospital can work out a treatment plan.

  • Thankyou. I'm far from worried about this new event in my life. I'm a very practical person and like things orderly. Then I can be content.

  • I am pleased you are able to deal with this in your own way. If you are diagnosed with cancer this forum is always here for you should it change your outlook. Go easy on collecting health misinformation on the internet. Stick to NHS McMillan Cancer Research etc.  Fasting and Soursop will not help you get rid of cancer. From one practical person to another
