Hi I have just joined after being diagnosed with Malignant Melanoma last month. It's all very new, I have an operation in 2 weeks.

  1. I am interested in similar experiences others have had, before and after having initial testing.
  2. I am concerned about being under general anaesthetic.
  3. I am concerned to find the cancer may have spread and how I will feel. And the next stage if treatment.
  • Welcome to the forum weehours I can see you posted this in the wee hours.

Everyone reacts differently some people are quite relaxed and just methodically get on with life and their treatment. Whilst others are understanably terrified. You and me both suffer from sleepless nights.

Do not worry about the anaesthetic you will be thoroughly assessed beforehand so that everthing will go ok. You get a canula in the back of your hand and a drip line to put medicine into you and a face mask to give you gas and air. You will be asleep in seconds and unaware of anything until you wake in the recovery ward.

Concentrate on getting the operation over with and recovering. Before worrying about the next stage of treatment. One bridge at a time. All the best.
