Yvonne

Hi everyone,  my name is Yvonne and l was diagnosed with stage one bowel cancer. I had the operation 18 months ago and life after the operation was hard to get over it but, it was well worth it .

It has been up and down over the 18 months but l was glad that my surgeon saved my life. I do have my tumour marker  blood test every 6 months and a CT scan every 12 months.

My last blood test was on January 14th 2025 and that was 12 weeks ago and that came back normal unfortunately, for the last few weeks l have found blood on my toilet paper (((3 times )))) and blood in my stools

This has caused much distress and anxiety,  l cannot get in touch with my after care nurse because l dont have her number.

However,  l have made an appointment with my doctor on Thurday , it is the  first time today there was  no blood in my stools.

I never had any treatment after my surgery they said l did not need it so l am puzzled why l am seeing blood.

Thanks for listening and hopefully you have read my despair

  • Hi Yvonne,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear of your worries, I can understand this is causing some uncertainty and concerns. It's good that you've made an appointment with the doctor and I see that it is coming up tomorrow.

Do use this appointment as an opportunity to explain what's been happening - how often, how long for, any other changes you've noticed - and to ask any questions you may have. They will be best placed to advise and I hope that the appointment goes OK.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
