Newbie - concerned about my recovery and independence after hysterectomy

Hi.

I am a 64 year old who was diagnosed with grade 2 endometrial cancer last week. Things are moving quickly. Pre-op tomorrow and CT scan the day after.

I'm concerned about my recovery and independence after the hysterectomy.  I'm the main carer for my 89 year old mother who lives with me. Also I recently broke my humerus in 7 places and dislocated my shoulder. The auxilary nerve and deltoid muscles dont work. I use my stomach muscles alot to get up and down from chairs and bed , as my right arm isn't functioning properly.

How much could you do after your operation? How tricky will I find movement? Some stories on line have worried me

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Zoexx although I'm sorry to hear you were diagnosed with endometrial cancer last week.

It can be scary when things start moving quickly, but I hope it helps to know that our members know what you're going through, and I'm sure some of them will be along soon to offer their support and advice.

I hope this information we have about what happens after surgery and the possible problems that can occur will give you a better of idea of what your recovery will be like, but if you'd like to discuss this further with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040. Although their phone lines will be closed tomorrow, they are usually available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They will do all they can to answer your questions and put your mind at ease about what's to come.

We're thinking of you Zoexx and wishing you all the best with your hysterectomy.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
