Diagnosed with prostate cancer which has spread to the lymph nodes. Wanted to talk about side effects of radiotherapy

Hi there,

I have been diagnosed with prostatic cancer (20/03/2024)which has spread to the lymph nodes.

I am on a daily hormonal treatment (tablets) and on an hormonal injection( every 3 months).

At the present time my PSA is 0.01 and i have started my radiotherapy on 21/03/2025.

I am very positive mental and physically. I am still working, going to the Gym and eating healthy.

I would like to ask about the side effects of the radiotherapy:

I can see that the urine flow is not as strong as before this and it is a little bit painful when i pass urine.is there anything i can do to inprove the urine flow a part from drinking plenty of water.?

I am very concern about the second session of radio therapy because i could get a full blockage of my bladder. Thank you

  • Hello Arles2025 and welcome to the Cancer Chat forum,

If you have any concerns around sides effects it might be a good idea to raise this with your doctor at your next session, if you haven't already. There is also guidance around radiotherapy for prostate cancer. It has information on what to expect and ways of coping, depending on the type of radiotherapy you're having. We also have a dedicated team of cancer nurses who are available on the free helpline, if you'd like to talk to someone about any aspect of your diagnosis. You can call 0808 800 4040 and lines are open 9 to 5 Monday to Friday.

It's great to hear you're keeping positive and I hope things improve,
