Terrified

hi there, new to this but l am terrified fearful of the future, my husband out of the blue got diagnosed with bowel cancer and secondary lung cancer 2weeks ago ,he will soon be79 yrs old has had 2 stroke one was a bleed on the brain ,and the other a blood clot,he come through them but left some disability, also he has blocked cartoid arteries,he has decided that all he wants is management not any treatment he’s gone through to much ,l agree with him am l wrong ,l think not ,would welcome some responses

  • So sorry to hear about your situation.

Provided your husband is able to make a fully informed decision, it is right to go with what. He wants and the law supports this.  I don't know if this helps at all but medical professionals would also go down this route so technically you are absolved of responsibility in terms of decision making .

However. do look after yourself as what you are going through is still very  tough.  Options for help include talking to family / friends, counselling, support groups, medication, relaxation exercises.

    All the best with everything

  • Hi I know where your husband and you are coming from.  I have stage four breast cancer and have opted for no treatment. It’s scary but after having cancer 4 times I know the side effects. Quality is much better than quantity. Stop feeling like your supposed to keep him going   Relax and enjoy and make memories while you can x

  • Thank you Sherrie’s 160356 l am sorry for your diagnosis, you must be so courageous, thank you for your kindness it means so much to me that you didn’t judge ,and you are right quality is more important than quantity, sending you best wishes x

  • I agree with Sherrie and yourself.  No one should judge you until they've walked a mile in your shoes.  The path that you and your husband are proposing to take sounds very logical and sensible to me.

    Take care of yourselves

  • Thank you for your reply it means so much ,it gives us strength to be strong in our way forward best wishes
